Mignote, as a long time CAS coordinator I think your article is good. Showing that some students enjoy CAS. Personally I think many students do, if CAS is approached in a positive way at schools. Just a point though - There is no such thing as hours…

Community service is a great thing! It makes a big difference in communities, and benfits yourself as it compliments your cv. I think that everyone should spend a little bit of their time helping others. Well written article. Wouter

This is a really well written article. I know a lot of people who are doing community service just to get enough hours to graduate, and they do community service even though they don't like to. I'm glad to see some people who are doing community ser…

In my school we usually have an assembly where some people present the damages that we are doing to our Earth. I am not involved with it this year so I'm sorry but I can't be of any help.

Hi Mignote!
I used to go to your school...

Since I'm only in10th grade (your 9th grade) we have 50 hours of CAS to do. A maximum of 20 hours can be used to practice a sport which for me is athletics and then I have 20 hours of Spanish lessons. For my other 10 hours I have to do a CAS project of my choice and I decided to participate in a film competition for the local police by creating a 30sec. add about an issue concerning the city traffic. I've just started working on the project so I don't really have anything done yet but I have started the planning. This year I've went to the Zurich GIN conference too. Also, I helped paint the set, make the signs and sell the tickets for the school play.
I do like what I am doing as they are all things that interest me and that help the community. For example, the video I'm making enables me to learn more about using cameras and editing footage which I really enjoy.
I think that in my own small way I do contribute to making a difference, however, in order for change to really take place the future generations of people have to really start caring and taking more action. That is the reason why I believe that conferences like GIN can really help us see the problems that we are going to inherit and the solutions we can find to them.
I do think its important to do CAS because its a really great sensation when you know that in some way you have helped someone. It also shows us how lucky and privileged we really are to live in such a protected environment and not have to struggle with some of the issues that less fortunate people go through every day.
I started doing CAS this year but in middle school we used to put on plays and the money raised would go to one of our sister schools.
I think that I will continue doing CAS even after I graduate because its one of the most gratifying experiences to have. Also, as members of a community we should want to improve it and make it better for everyone else.
